Intermittent Fasting | Weight Loss And Detox At The Same Time
Intermittent fasting is the term given to a period where a person will abdicate the intake of foods. Normally, people who do intermittent fasting skip meals during the day with the purpose of spirituality, detox and weight loss purposes.
Therefore, to consider you are fasting, you should not eat. However, you can just intake foods less than 50 calories for the intermittent fasting works with its effects.
Intermittent fasting also is practised in different religions such as Christianity, Islamism and Buddhism for example. These religions, Fasting is approached as the act of purifying or to be pure. In the old testament, there is an example where Moses abdicated food for forty days to contact with God.
For the Islamic religion, Muslim people all around the globe in the month of Ramadan, fast and pray the entire month. They stop eating when sunrise and eat when the sunset.
I work with Muslim and I can see how strong they are fasting an entire day. Therefore, although there are many meaning and uses of fasting, see what is the main purpose of your own self.
Are you looking for weight-loss, spirituality or even detox your body efficiently, so Intermittent fasting is for you.
Intermittent Fasting Benefits?
In my process of detoxification, I tried intermittent fasting for twenty-four hours and I would say it had benefits in my body. It is not so easy to follow but it works. For me, do the intermittent fasting was unique to detox, where I was not eating at all, only drinking green tea with turmeric.
Personally, at the begin, it was ok skipping breakfast and lunch. However, when I reached dinner time, I felt the difference. I felt strongly hungry and my body becomes low, but as the time passed by I was getting normalized.
The final feeling is a kind of freedom. I was feeling a discomfort that never finished and at the end of the process (Midnight), I feel like I was “empty” of food but also rid from bad toxins where made me feel so good.
This is my personal experience, but there are many benefits of intermittent fasting such as:
This is obvious if you don’t eat you don’t gain weight, however, if you fast you will lose weight.
In my point of view, Intermittent fasting is the best way for weight-loss. If you eat you will get energy if you don’t eat your body will need energy. If it realizes that you did not eat, it will use the stored energy (fat). Yes, baby, that beautiful rounding belly you have is a storage of energy.
Intermittent fasting and longevity is a broad topic which is being studied by a different institution nowadays.
Therefore, not being so deep I can exemplify and contrast intermittent fasting with longevity. At the begin, us homo sapiens, we didn’t have the same food supply available we have today. Our bodies evolved with the reality of that environment.
Today, after the industrial revolution, we have whatever we can eat and with a giant diversity of food variation.
So, our bodies that were designed to scarcity is not prepared with the surplus of fat, carbohydrates, sugar and protein.
However, when we apply the intermittent fasting, our bodies start a kind of cellular defence against cellular damages, also it makes easiest to change older cells to new ones where it brings the longevity.
In other words, when we are fasting more than six hours, we start a kind of cleanse phase called autophagy where the body will get rid of all sick and bad cells.
Therefore, as I mentioned before, we are so used to eat every three hours that we don’t allow autophagy to work.
3- Intermittent Fasting and the Brain
Eating all day long makes the sugar rises and falls in your body. When sugar is low in the body we experience a brain fog which is related to lack of clarity, poor concentration and inability to focus.
On the other hand, when we fast our brain receives a natural boost giving an amazing mental clarity. Allowing us to focus on whatever task that should be finished. It also allows avoiding that mid-day drowsiness that lower our productivity.
Our bodies have a clean mode where is only activated when the human body is at the intermittent fasting. Its name is autophagy as mentioned before.
When the autophagy start works, the brain starts working better, increasing the memory, improves memory and focus, making your learning process much better.
Why Should You Start Intermittent Fasting?
I personally don’t do intermittent fasting often. I normally do once every two weeks, just to maintain my body clean. However, normally when I am in pressure times, such as final exams I normally prolong it to once a week.
As I mentioned before, it brings benefits to the brain, as well as help you to feel better. I start doing intermittent fasting during exams because I was experiencing exactly when you eat all day long feelings such as brain fog and unwell physically.
Applying the intermittent fasting helped me to concentrate on the studies and have a better output in my exams.
Finding Your Why
You have to first figure out why you should start the intermittent fasting. Knowing your why is important to focus on where you want to go.
In the majority of times, people choose it to lose weight that in my point of view is the best diet. Others do just for detoxification, and finally, the religious people do the intermittent fasting to increase their spiritual level.
Once you know what is your purpose through intermittent fasting, you have to focus on the solution and the benefit it will bring to you.
Now, this is your turn, I would recommend you to start when you wake up and go through the day skipping at list breakfast and lunch. If it is your first time and you can not go all day long, six to eight hours are great.
You simply need to keep the habit of fasting. Don’t try to do crazy things in the beginning. Create a schedule and follow it and see the benefits on the medium term.
Once you feel comfortable doing it eight to ten hours, try to increase to twelve and sixteen. The goal here is to reach twenty-four hours.
Twenty four hours is when you feel the real detoxification when you feel you reborn again.
So, don’t give up on the hard work, be healthy have time and you have to give it to you. I recommend fasting for your routine as the best way to detox and lose weight. Do your best to take care of yourself.
