Goals | Why Are You Not Accomplishing Them?
Are you struggling to reach your goals arguing with your own self, what the hell is happening to me? I know how you feel because I already witnessed what you are living right now. I knew I needed to settle goals to change my life. However, I couldn’t and I did not know what was happening.
When we figure out we need to change, we need to grow, goals is the first thing that comes to our minds. However, after we have them, most of us don’t know what the hell happens that we don’t reach them. Like magic right?
In this article, I will discuss three topics that made me not to reach my goals, and I got ages to figure out why I was not reaching my them.
Are your goals unclear?
Having goals is a must for success. If your goals are not clear in where you want to go, it certainly won’t be reached. How do you know whether your goals are unclear? It is simple, is when you just talked about it without the proper purpose it should be.
Goals, when established, should not only be done without the proper approach. I mean, if you are not used to settling your own goals you have to be aware. If you are not reaching what you really want you may have done these steps:
1- Not take time to see what you want.
2- Only wishing what you want.
3- Not take the proper approach needed.
4- Not preparing a plan for them.
5- Not studying how to reach a goal.
When we talk about goals, it is not only to guess or wishing. It is much deeper than you think. I remember studying at business management course when I crossed with the term SMART goals in the first semester.
The term SMART goals are acronyms for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely. When you settle your goals, be clear if they are SMART.
Your goals will not be clear if you only wish and guess that something happens. When you proper settle your goals using the technique I have told above, your goals won’t be unclear. Rather, You will have a better and much better focus.
Your goals will guide you, leading you to the focused aim.
Now, you have settled your goals and even have used the SMART technique to settle them. However, your procrastination is much stronger than you. It is funny but should not be!
Procrastinating in my point of view is not only the art of postponing something, it is a little beyond than this. It is because you lose the focus, get desecrated by something, or you are not used doing what you are supposed to do.
I am not here to judge you; I used to procrastinate too, and I hated myself because of this behaviour. Procrastination can be a simple behaviour but it can destroy your self-esteem.
I will explain why procrastination can destroy your self-esteem as a consequence of not reaching your goal.
You have to understand that the human being goes towards pleasure and runs from pain. It can be related to why you are procrastinating right? Maybe but it is not what I will focus here today.
You have to understand when you are procrastinating you are delaying your success, and when you don’t reach your goals you are destroying your chances to reach what you really want.
Progress = Success
Procrastination is the opposite of progress. When you don’t reach your goals because of procrastination your self-esteem suffers. Did you know that self-esteem is directly related to success? As higher your self-esteem is the higher the chance you chances to accomplish your goals and reach success.
Therefore, procrastinate in other words will only start a domino effect towards failure. You will procrastinate consequently not reaching your goals on time and finally don’t have the self-esteem to do what you were supposed to reach before.
As I said, procrastination goes a little beyond and it is dangerous.
If you have a serious problem procrastinating as I used to be. The best medicine is CHALLENGES. The best way to acquire something when you are a professional procrastinator my advice for you is to do a 7, 15, 30 or 90 days challenger.
You will compromise to the time frame you have chosen and do your best to log your tasks every single day. When you compromise to challenges you will have momentum and finally reach a breakthrough. Your self-esteem will grow exponentially and it will be much easy for you to go to a higher and difficult challenge.
Did you ask yourself how those supper successful guys have reached such success? It is clear they started with small goals and challenges and gradually increased to difficult ones as their self-esteem grew.
Who surround you?
Are you sick in where you are right now and want to move to another level? As I mentioned on the topic above, all of us seeks the same improvement but not all of us have the same desire and willpower. If your goals are reached another level in life, for example, you have to make sure who surrounds you.
Say who you walk with and I will tell you who you are.
Having goals is important but if you are surrounded by people who are not lined up with your goals it will be hard to attain what you want. Your goals would be for example wake up early everyday morning, it is simple of course, your friends may not influence it. However, if you are trying to go to another level in life you have to consider their influence.
If you are reading this article, it means you want to change or you want to attain something different in your life. Yet, you have people who are not in the same objective as you, in many cases are those who you love.
The answer to it is, you have to change. You have to hang up with people who want to grow and have goals to reach. You have to understand, those who surround you will influence you directly or indirectly. The only thing you can do is changing them for those who are mentally aligned as you.
I don’t mean you have to move from your family because they are not aligned with your goals, I mean you have to change your environment and show them you are growing.
You may work in a place, or study where have people complaining about the economy, or people talking about other coworkers/classmates, talking about the Netflix series for example.
Go away from them. If you want to change, avoid them as much as you can. They have the power to involve you in their problems and make you stay away from your goals.
When you realize, you already lost one or more days from your challenge.
If you ask: How can I do it? It is impossible for me, the place where I live don’t have people with the same mindset! Great, it means you are an eagle.
So, if you want to grow and don’t have the right people to hang up with as me when I awakened to life, you can use some tricks to make you change your mindset and don’t be involved by their ethos.
I use to read a lot of books related to self-improvement and stories of great people who had impressively changed their lives. Also, with the days of technology, there are many groups online of people who are on the same path as you.
Therefore, make sure you are always surrounded by people who will help you to stay on track and reach your goals.
These are some of the many reasons why you are not reaching your goals. I could keep bringing much different discernment about why people do not reach their goals but this is the mains I would consider.
Despite your goals are not clear, you can fix it using SMART goals for example. If you are a professional procrastinator and is hard to settle a different goal because you know you will not follow it, do a challenge and see how you will have momentum.
Finally, if you are surrounded by people who have not the same mindset as you and you don’t know how and where they are, use the internet to find these people and read a lot of self-improvement books.
I am sure that if you follow these steps you will be more than able to reach your goals.
You can for sure change your situation and be the best of yourself.
